In 2008, the total export volume of auto parts in China increased by 20.3 times over the first year of the WTO.

According to the latest figures released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in the first half of 2008, China’s auto parts exports totaled 1.537436 trillion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of over 19%. This scale is 20.3 times of the value of $757.3 million in the first year of 2002 after the accession to the WTO.

In the export of auto parts in the first half of this year, according to the major product categories, the driving system exports accounted for the largest share, with nearly 4.06 billion US dollars ranking top, accounting for 26.4% of the total auto parts exports, followed by automotive electronics, export value More than 3.07 billion US dollars, the proportion reached 20%. The share of exports of steering systems and their components is the lowest.

The order of the export amount of auto parts products in China is: driving system, automotive electronics, body and accessories, parts, other automotive parts, engine parts, brake systems, trailers, semi-trailers and parts, transmission systems, steering system.

At present, the status quo of the export structure of auto parts in China presents the following characteristics: The export of auto parts has formed an important export base with Shandong Province, Shanghai Municipality, Guangdong Province, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province as its backbone, and forms its own products based on different products. The pattern of echelon supply; the export destination of auto parts concentrates on the traditional auto market such as the United States and Japan, and forms a wide range of gradient supply patterns.

Experts from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center believe that from 2003 to the first half of 2008, a series of changes have taken place in China's auto parts export product structure, highlighting three aspects.

First, the proportion of exports, which represent higher value-added engine parts, body parts, transmission systems, and other major products, has increased. The proportion of engine component exports to total component exports increased from 5.39% at the end of 2003 to 8.90% at the end of June 2008.

Second, the share of automobile parts and components of the automobile driving system, represented mainly by tires, has dropped sharply, falling from 41.55% at the end of 2003 to 26.38% at the end of June 2008. China's tire products are still limited to ordinary products for low-speed driving, and the monopoly of Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear tire giants is difficult to break.

Third, while the total export volume of automotive electronics and electrical appliances has maintained a steady growth, the share of total exports of parts and components has also been maintained. The export volume of automotive electronics and electrical appliances increased from US$1.212 billion in 2003 to US$5.491 billion in 2007. In the first half of 2008, it also achieved US$3.076 billion, and the overall growth was stable.

The major difficulties faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in the automotive industry represented by parts and components are cost pressures, combined with foreign technology monopoly, and changes in exchange rates. China's parts and components industry is upgrading itself. "The changes in the export structure within the major categories of products show that China's auto parts exports are moving in the direction of higher technological content and higher added value."

What is certain is that the sales of single parts and components are increasing and the prices are increasing. This reflects from one aspect that the technical content of China's spare parts products is improving. "China's spare parts are upgrading, the industrial structure is changing, and it has shown great progress."

Nevertheless, our spare parts product manufacturing is still concentrated in the primary parts of components, and does not require the processing of castings, and key components such as the gearbox of heavy vehicles, the core management system of the engine, etc. space.

"Overall, China's spare parts have not yet entered the truly international market. Our spare parts exports also focus on supporting the automotive aftermarket, and export countries are concentrated in the United States and Japan."
