Asahi Kasei Corporation plans to withdraw from benzene and ammonia production

It is reported that Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation recently stated that the company’s chemical plant in Mizushima, Japan, will stop production of ammonia and benzene. In the future, the company’s chemicals will be completely acquired from other suppliers. This is the company’s efforts to strengthen its petrochemical business competitiveness. Part of the measure. The 320,000 tons/year ammonia plant in Shuidao Chemical Plant was put into production in 1971, and the 300,000 tons/year benzene plant was put into operation in 1970. The two units will be closed in March-April 2012.
According to Asahi Kasei Chemicals Co., Ltd.: “Because of large-scale petrochemical installations in the Middle East and China, the operational environment of Japan’s petrochemical industry will deteriorate.” Due to the strong rebound in oil prices, Japan’s domestic ammonia and benzene production costs have risen sharply. The decision of the second company to withdraw the production of these two chemicals will save the company more costs because the company can obtain cheaper products from the international market.
