Interview with Yang Jialin, Senior Technical Expert of Ford Motor Company
Core tips:
Domestically called "R & D" often only "send" without "research." Domestic companies are accustomed to deploying human resources to form a research team in the product design department according to the needs of the project and carry out some research and development work. So far, no research and development capability and system for core technologies for car engines that can compete with foreign countries have been established on Chinese soil. To change this situation, it is necessary to establish a relatively independent research and development department with independent autonomy and considerable autonomy and certain technological capabilities.
Reporter: Please talk about how to strengthen the research and development capabilities of the domestic automotive engine industry.
Yang Jialin: The biggest problem in the domestic auto industry is that there is basically no independent research and development capability for engine core technologies. Most people do not understand the R&D system of foreign automotive engine core technologies and do not understand the difference between engine product design and development and engine technology R&D. SAIC is working hard on this.
Reporter: Under what circumstances will multinational corporations increase investment in R&D in China and develop new technologies for the Chinese market?
Yang Jialin: It is impossible for a multinational company to develop the world's common engine core technology in China so as to prevent Chinese people from having the opportunity to master this capability and not rely on foreigners. In addition, the technology level of cars produced in China is usually lower than that of foreign products. Multinational companies will definitely not think that it is necessary to develop new technologies for the Chinese market. They just need to use old technologies and they call them “new technologies†in China. ".
Reporter: What policy support do you think you need to do research and development in China?
Yang Jialin: According to my personal point of view, the state should formulate policies that directly require the country to truly meet the most needed goals: reduce the average fuel consumption and emissions of all automotive products as quickly as possible, and use it as the main criterion for assessing the effectiveness of government departments and enterprises. . In this way, auto companies will adopt the most effective measures to meet the requirements of the country and avoid the tendency to simply pursue “bright spots†without seeking practical results. The last thing the state should not do is to support technologies that are too specific. Otherwise, they will definitely focus on these technologies. No one will be responsible for energy conservation and emissions reductions that the country most needs. According to the scientific concept of development and historical experience, successful technologies are developed in the market competition, and not anyone can be selected in advance. The seedlings can be poured with water, and it is not expected that the seedlings will encourage growth. There is no material basis, no competitive seedlings, and no more watering and fertilizing.
Reporter: Can you talk about the game relationship between traditional energy power and the development of new energy vehicles and how to achieve a smooth transition from traditional energy technologies to new energy technologies?
Yang Jialin: Talk about some personal opinions. As the oil resources on the earth will be exhausted, new energy vehicles will eventually replace traditional energy vehicles. The time when such replacement can take place depends entirely on the time required for large-scale supply of clean new energy. The breakthrough in new energy automotive technology does not make "substitution" happen in advance. Prior to the large-scale supply of new energy, reducing the fuel consumption of traditional energy vehicles is the most urgent task, and it can provide time for the development of new energy sources. New energy vehicles have no direct effect on solving energy problems. They neither open source nor reduce expenditure. This is the basic logical relationship. Since no one has yet come forward to point out responsibly that: What is the clean new energy that can replace oil in large quantities within 50 years, the basic transformation of transportation energy may be at least 50 years later. Therefore, if we do not focus our strategy on fuel-saving technologies for automotive products, and focus on the development of new-energy vehicles that cannot be mass-produced and sold for decades, they will lead to bankruptcy as GM.
In order to make technical preparations for the use of new energy vehicles in the future, it is time to vigorously develop new technologies for vehicle batteries. There is no need to worry about using motor-driven technologies. As long as battery technology passes, using electric motors to drive the wheels, that is, developing a pure electric power platform, is a simple engineering problem. Foreigners did it more than 100 years ago. They are not worth worrying at all, nor will China enjoy a leading reputation.
