The Sino-German Automobile Lightweight Technology Engineering Center was established in Dresden, the eastern German city, on the 12th. It will promote technical cooperation and progress between the two countries and promote the development of lightweight technology in the new energy automobile industry.
Lightweight technology is an effective means to achieve energy-saving emission reduction and efficient application of materials. It can be widely used in aerospace, rail transit, automobiles, robots and other fields, and has far-reaching significance and important impact on sustainable transportation.
The center was established in cooperation with Beijing New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Beiqi New Energy") and the team of Werner Hufenbacher of Dresden University of Technology. Hufenbach is known as the "Father of European Lightweight" and has won the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award. He is a member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering.
Hu Fenbach said that the theme of future cooperation between the two sides includes promoting the development of Sino-German lightweight advanced technologies, deepening cross-cultural understanding between China and Germany, shaping partnership openness and mutual trust, and achieving mutual win-win goals. The center is committed to integrating Germany's meticulously different innovation cultures with strong Chinese vitality and rapid transformation in practice.
Chen Shanghua, deputy general manager of Beiqi New Energy, said that the center’s first “Advanced Lightweight Materials Application and Lightweight Structure Optimization Research†project has been officially launched. This year, it will undertake two other technology development projects, in the new energy vehicle body, chassis and Comprehensive research cooperation on vehicle lightweight technology is expected, and a number of phased technical achievements are expected to be achieved in 2018.
Yin Jun, Minister Counselor of the Science and Technology Department of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, said that he hopes that the center has goals and plans to keep up with the fast-growing Chinese market and provide technical support for BAIC's commitment to develop electric vehicles. The Sino-German Joint Research and Development Center for Rail Transit Technology, established in Dresden, coordinated and promoted each other.
Officials from the German Ministry of Science and Technology in Saxony said that Saxony has an advantage in lightweight technology and that the center will become a new player in the local lightweight cooperation network. The combination of internationalization and cross-cultural will create synergies and create more value for participants.
