Once created a miracle of Shanghai GM, helping SAIC to surpass FAW, Chen Hong, who has experienced countless storms, is likely to once again present a "gift" to SAIC.
According to news, Chen Hong, president of Shanghai Automotive Co., Ltd., is intensifying contact with Fiat recently and the two sides will conduct final negotiations on comprehensive cooperation in commercial vehicles. However, when the reporter called the SAIC Group's Commercial Vehicle Division, the relevant personnel said, "Inconvenient to disclose."
However, there have been media reports that the cooperation framework between the two parties may be reached in September. Considering that the two sides have already cooperated, if the two parties can reach an agreement this time, it will be a good thing for them to "add a pro."
Want to build a new platform
At the end of last month, SAIC's partner General Motors Group and FAW teamed up to establish FAW Light Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd., which is a key step in entering the Chinese commercial vehicle market.
It is understood that before the two parties cooperated, GM China once communicated with SAIC. General aspects said, "In fact, our (general) preferred partner is SAIC, but SAIC already has 8 joint ventures, and SAIC already has partners in commercial vehicles."
After losing the opportunity for cooperation with SAIC, GM North found the "most suitable" FAW. SAIC Motor will continue to keep in touch with FIAT and hope that both parties can further cooperate in commercial vehicles.
In fact, since SAIC acquired SAIC at the end of 2007, cooperation with Fiat has expanded. At present, the cooperation between the two parties has involved light trucks, light passengers and heavy trucks and other related products.
Allegedly, this cooperation, SAIC Group and the Fiat Group's commercial vehicle brand Iveco reached a comprehensive cooperation, through the establishment of a new platform to integrate SAIC's commercial vehicle business.
It is an opportunity for both parties
Although 2009 is not over yet, in the short period of more than half a year, Beiqi Foton and Daimler-Benz, Sinotruk and Mann, JAC and Caterpillar and Navistar, FAW and General Motors and other Chinese and foreign commercial vehicle companies The cooperation case continues to show. Some people use the “Joint Venture Year†to describe commercial vehicles in 2009, and even believe that “a series of joint ventures in the commercial vehicle sector can become milestones in the history of China and the world’s automotive industry.â€
International giants have come to China for joint ventures to seize the market. This has given rise to pressure on companies that intend to develop commercial vehicles, but they are also weak, such as SAIC commercial vehicles.
At present, SAIC's commercial vehicle business has a number of companies, but production and sales are not satisfactory. Analysts believe that in addition to SAIC-GM-Wuling sales ranking first in the market, other products have not entered the market mainstream.
From the perspective of Fiat, the development of passenger cars in China has not been smooth, and the current focus is also on the commercial vehicle business. “At this time, any kind of disturbance in the commercial vehicle sector is an incentive for both,†said a truck analyst.
Tan Xiuqing, vice president of Shandong Heavy Industry Group, also believes that the establishment of FAW-GM cannot have no impact on SAIC Motor. At present, the large domestic commercial vehicle companies and the international giants have "hanged the number." Everyone is fighting for a fight. Although the cooperation between SAIC and Fiat has already begun, the current results have not yet been revealed. For SAIC to use Fiat to fully integrate its commercial vehicle business, it must accelerate its pace.
The bus becomes the target?
"If the joint venture with Fiat's commercial vehicles is successful, SAIC will set up a commercial vehicle company. At present, Nanjing Iveco and Chongqing Hongyan heavy truck plants will all become their subordinate plants." SAIC insiders said.
A friend who had worked for Fiat for many years told reporters that if the two can form a new joint venture company, SAIC is likely to use Fiat to further integrate its bus business.
At present, SAIC and Fiat have relatively deep cooperation in terms of heavy trucks, light trucks, and light passengers. The only thing in terms of buses is that the two sides have not yet established ties. This leaves a lot of market space for both parties.
Wan Ruyi, general manager of Iveco China, once said, “I hope to apply Changzhou Iveco's experience to long-term strategy to develop long-term relationship with SAIC.â€
