ATLAS, which was built with much attention at Boston Power Company, is a rescue robot prototype, but now NASA continues to research and innovate to build Valkyrie: a 6-foot-2, 275-pound rescue robot. In "The Robot is the Competitor's DARPA Robotics Challenge", aimed at finding tomorrow's life-saving robot contest, it will soon receive a test to see if it can be like climbing a ladder and using tools to perform tasks.
Why is NASA involved? Because it is the robot that will eventually be dispatched to Mars, and the challenge of participating in DARPA provides them with data on how this can be done. The Valkyrie itself will not fly to space, it is a ground robot. It is not designed for the travel of the universe, but it is a useful starting point.
Valkyrie uses his three-fingered hand (update: and one thumb) to manipulate the object, and it is equipped with a camera and sensor, so it can eventually operate autonomously. In addition, (this is a recognized small detail), the robot actually looks large. If it tries to save my life, I won't be afraid to withdraw, probably.
