According to reports, Brazil's Braskem company president and CEO Carlos Fadigas said on Tuesday that the company is considering investing in a new ethylene cracker and polyethylene (PE) plant in the United States. The company plans to build a new ethylene cracker using shale gas as raw material in the United States. Downstream products include polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. Braskem has polyethylene production capacity in Brazil, but there is no polyethylene resin capacity in the United States. Braskem Corporation has become a major polypropylene (PP) supplier in the United States after acquiring the assets of the United States Sun Oil Company in 2010. The company has 6.6 million tons/year of polymer resin production capacity in Brazil.
