“The process of electrification of the power system is accelerating. Even if the current price of oil continues to decline, this reality cannot be changed.†At the 2015 International Automotive Industry Symposium held in Bochum, Germany, the Chairman of Bosch Group’s Board of Directors, who is also responsible for the development of the Bosch Group Dr. Kemar Dunner was shocked by four words. He believes that by 2025, at least 15% of new cars worldwide will be equipped with hybrid systems. Advanced battery technology is the key to reducing vehicle prices. He firmly believed that by 2020, the battery cost will be halved while doubling the energy density.
Electrification technology will greatly increase the attractiveness of internal combustion engines
According to the strict automobile carbon emission standards issued by the EU, Bosch expects that the hybrid power system will become the standard configuration of sport utility vehicles (SUVs), which will become the new market growth point for gasoline and diesel engines in the future. Dr. Dunner pointed out: "Electrification will drive the internal combustion engine to a new level." With the support of electric drive systems, the internal combustion engine will be cleaner and more visible in the future. At the same time, the additional torque provided by the electric motor will make driving more fun. On the other hand, with the drop in battery prices, hybrid systems will also be accepted by more and more people.
It is especially important for mass consumers whether electric vehicles meet daily use needs. Dr. Dunner uses the Chinese market as an example to prove that Bosch supplies electric wheels for China's current light-duty, two-wheeled electric vehicles with more than 120 million vehicles. The maximum speed of this popular vehicle in China is 40 km/h, which is fast enough for the traffic conditions in many big cities. At the same time, about 50 kilometers of life is enough to meet the daily travel needs. Dr. Dunner thinks: “The success of this two-wheeled vehicle depends on its original intention to meet the needs of Chinese office workers.†Because of this, many models of two-wheeled electric vehicles are two-wheeled Motorcycles are cheaper. According to Dr. Dunner, Bosch in China is also working to provide such customized solutions for automotive technology.
An APP to achieve national charging
The realization of car networking will make electric travel more convenient. Dr. Dunner pointed out: "Interconnected electric vehicles are superior to ordinary electric vehicles." The current state of difficulty in charging such vehicles is bound to change. Bosch Software Innovations (Bosch Software and Systems Development Division) has developed a new smart application that makes it easy to make bookings for charging sites of different suppliers and complete payment of fees. Prior to this, customers had to use different payment cards to complete payment at different supplier sites. In Germany, drivers now only need a smart phone, an app, and a PayPal account to recharge anywhere in the country. Bosch has also built a software platform to improve this service by connecting with 80% of the charging stations in Germany. As this example shows, Bosch is no longer simply defining itself as a supplier of automotive components, but is expanding its expertise in the entire intelligent transportation sector – automation, electrification and interconnection. In the near future, Bosch will provide customers with integrated automotive and intelligent transportation solutions.
