Audi and Voith develop new automotive production materials

Audi, a German luxury car manufacturer, announced that the company will jointly develop a new bodywork material with Voith, which has signed an agreement.

According to the agreement, Audi and Voith will be committed to achieving industrial mass production of fiber-reinforced plastics composites, in order to provide support for the development of future automotive projects. This material has great potential for realizing the use of lightweight vehicles.

It is reported that fiber-reinforced plastic composite materials collectively referred to as FRP, is a combination of fiber and plastic materials. The reinforcing fibers are glass fibers, carbon fibers and high-strength synthetic fibers. Commonly used in the automotive glass fiber and thermosetting resin composites.

FRP materials can be used to manufacture exterior parts such as automobile roofs, air deflectors, front end parts, front lamp housings, engine covers, fenders, rear end panels, triangular window frames, and outer panels. In addition, carbon fiber reinforced plastic composites can also make automotive parts.
